Retiring Older Streaming OptionsOn June 30th, many of the streaming options offered in the past will no longer be available:
- The classic streaming page will no longer be an option for your live shows. This flash-based page is outdated compared to modern browser standards.
- All versions of our SMBroadcast line of encoders will stop working. These encoders are not as powerful or as easy to use as SMConnect.
- The Neon Live Streaming app will no longer connect to your Streamate Models account. SMConnect mobile will take over as the preferred way to stream on mobile.
Concerned About These Changes? This transition should be easy for most cammodels who are already using SMConnect or SMConnect mobile when they stream. Although some may still rely on older tools and become worried to see them go. Here a few quick tips to help make this transition smoother: If you’re worried that your computer or internet are too slow to work with SMConnect, don’t. The SMConnect is very versatile and has options to help models achieve a crystal clear stream. Click here to read our current equipment recommendations. Models who still struggle to meet these requirements can make adjustments to their video quality in the Settings menu. Under “Stream Settings,” find Video Resolution. Change it from “Auto” to “Up to 720p”. This will manually limit the video resolution which should result in a smoother video experience for your viewers. Are You Using OBS As An External Encoder? SMConnect is at its fastest when using the built-in web encoder, but you can switch to an external encoder if needed. In your Settings page under “Stream Settings,” switch the Encoder setting to “External Encoder.” Next time you stream, you’ll be asked for your streaming URL and Key to connect your encoder of choice. We encourage you to try out the web encoder as well when deciding which experience will be better for your viewers. For models with high end equipment such as DSLR/Mirrorless cameras and additional hardware or software, Streamate would love gain more feedback from you. Cammers are encouraged to get in touch with them through support tickets in your dashboard.
Try A New Way To Stream! Because this is a completely new venture that’s being created from the ground up it’s only being offered to a limited number of cammers. The slow launch is most likely done in order to test the newer features on a small group to ensure their tech team is on the right track. SMConnect was designed to provide models with better streaming tools as well as a streaming page that’s fully organized and customized. Models will even be able to assign colors and icons to their preset messages as well as choose a light or dark theme for the dashboard interface.I’m not sure if the above statement is an indicator that the SMBroadcast will eventually become ancient history or if it’s be compatible with the SMConnect? I’ve never been satisfied with Streamate’s own broadcaster hence the reason why I stick to the OBS. It’s a great tool for some models who may not understand the complexities of creating a high definition camshow or may not need the option for splitcamming, because it’s intended purpose is tho detect your setting for you. But for my multi-streaming needs it’s always been a big fat NO! New And Improved Chat Instead of three chat boxes on your live chat page, they’ve simplified things for you. No more will you have to remember to look all the way to the bottom of the page to see the guest chat, but now all messages appear together in one box. It is still possible to de-select the “Free Chat Guest” so you can focus more on those who’ve entered a credit card to join the camsite and it’s also possible to hide chat messages while in a paid show. Sometimes it can be a bit distracting when outside members send messages during shows. All viewers start as Guests. When a paid show starts, paying members will move to the Paid section. Click any member’s name to block, kick, or check your User Detail notes. Now here comes the bad part about the new chat option with the SMConnect… I really hope that they can find a way to incorporate the “Classic Chat” option on the new chat page. Classic chat is a feature where models are able to separate and filter conversations among members. When you choose this mode, logged in members will only be able to see messages from the cammodel and the ones that they create themselves. I can think of at least three different reasons as to why this chat mode is important:
- Shy members can receive a higher level of comfort while communicating with cammodels.
- It cuts down on the number of trolls who’s main objective is to disrupt the flow of your camroom by insulting other members.
- In Classic Chat mode cammers can pretend that their room is more active by talking to themselves. This may sound crazy but sometimes I am my own best conversation. 🙂 There is no hiding when using Party Chat on Streamate. Everyone can see everything, including the amount of members in your chatroom.
